Corporal Singh-K9 Sam

Corporal Ronil Singh was born and raised in Fiji before immigrating to the United States in 2003, where he began to pursue his career dream of becoming a Police Officer. Corporal Singh’s career in the law enforcement field began with his time spent as a volunteer with the Modesto Police Department. He also served as an Animal Control Officer and Code Enforcement Officer with the Turlock Police Department, and worked for the Merced County Sheriffs Department. Corporal Singh attended the Yuba City Police Academy, and fulfilled his goal of becoming a Police Officer when he was hired by the Newman Police Department in July of 2011. In late 2013, Corporal Singh was partnered with the first narcotics canine in the history of the Newman Police Department, a Labrador Retriever named Sam. The combination of Corporal Singh and Sam provided to be a great team, leading to many narcotics related arrests, making the community of Newman a safer place. In October of 2016, Corporal Singh was promoted to the position of Police Corporal. In the early morning hours of December 26, 2018, Corporal Singh was shot and killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop. Sam was uninjured, and was retired to Corporal Singh’s wife and infant son. Corporal Singh was passionate about his job and the community he served. He will forever be remembered as an incredible Police Officer, but an even better man and friend. .
